PRODUCTS AT OTHER STORES

DECEMBER 9, 2008 – As the world’s largest as-seen-on-TV retailer, Showcase takes
your wellbeing and safety seriously. That’s why Showcase conducted an undercover
investigation using a Private Investigation firm, led by a former Detective
Superintendent of the Ontario Provincial Police, into counterfeiting at independent as-seen-
on-TV stores. |

The stores below were allegedly selling counterfeit products:
- products had the genuine brand name, but were allegedly fakes
- products did not have electrical approval, making them allegedly unsafe and illegal
- products were of allegedly inferior quality and workmanship

Litigation is underway in The Ontario Superior Court of Justice against all of these stores. An interlocutory order was issued in court file CV-08-4508-00 on the consent of the parties. The order contained the following wording: "the parties acknowledge that the defendant's consent is not an admission of wrongdoing." The allegations set out here have not been proven in a court of law. The proprietor of the As Seen On TV Stores has delivered a statement of defence that denies the allegations.

How to check for electrical approval |
|
|
| All electrical products sold in Canada must have electrical approval by a government - approved authority. The most common Certification Markings are: |

| As can be seen above, counterfeits may not have the mark of approval. The following
mark is NOT an approved marking, and can be an indication of a counterfeit: |

How to identify a counterfeit |
|

| According to the RCMP, identify a counterfeit by looking for the 3 P’s: |
|
Place of purchase --- Only buy from authorized legitimate retailers like SHOWCASE.
Price – If the price seems too good to be true, then it probably is.
Packaging – Spelling mistakes and poor photographs are an easy tip-off. |
